Our Guide to the Lyn Valley Classic: Sunday 14 June 2026

There is a specific kind of magic that happens when the rugged cliffs of Exmoor meet the polished chrome of a 1960s Jaguar. If you’ve ever visited Lynton and Lynmouth, you know the scenery is already breathtaking—but once a year, the “Little Switzerland” of England gets an extra dose of adrenaline and nostalgia.

The Lyn Valley Classic is more than just a car show; it’s a village-wide celebration of heritage, engineering, and North Devon community spirit. Whether you’re a lifelong “petrolhead” or just looking for a picturesque day out, here is why this event needs to be on your Exmoor itinerary.

More Than Just a Car Show

What started in 2014 with just 12 cars has transformed into one of the most unique motoring events in the UK. On Sunday, June 14th, 2026, over 400 vehicles will descend upon our twin villages.

Unlike traditional shows held in flat, grassy fields, the Lyn Valley Classic weaves itself into the very fabric of the landscape:

  • The Manor Green: Classic and vintage cars lined up against the backdrop of the Bristol Channel.
  • Lynton High Street: Supercars and modern exotics (think Ferraris and Astons) parked along the narrow, winding streets.
  • The Valley Road: The sound of vintage tractors and motorcycles echoing through the wooded valleys as they make their grand entrance.

A Day of Highlights

The schedule is always packed with more than just static displays. You can expect:

  • The Tractor Tour: A charming procession of vintage farm machinery that feels perfectly at home in our rural landscape.
  • The Supercar Start-up: Late in the afternoon, the quiet air of Lynton is broken by the roar of high-performance engines as the Supercar Club prepares to depart.
  • The Cliff Railway: No visit is complete without a trip on the Victorian water-powered railway connecting the two show areas. It’s the best way to see the sheer scale of the event from above.

Driving for a Cause

One of the reasons we love the Classic at The Lynmouth Retreat is its heart. The event is run entirely by volunteers and local business owners. Since its inception, it has raised over £100,000 for local charities. Every exhibitor and visitor contributes to supporting the very community that makes this valley so special.

Tips for Your Visit

  1. Arrive Early: The display cars usually arrive between 8:30 AM and 9:30 AM. Watching them navigate the “Lynmouth Hill” is a spectacle in itself.
  2. Park & Ride: The villages get very busy! Use the dedicated Park & Ride services usually situated at the top of the hill to avoid the stress of narrow-street parking.
  3. Bring a Camera: Between the “Clay” tones of the coastal rocks and the vibrant “Mountain” greens of the valley, the photo opportunities with the vintage cars are endless.

Are you planning to attend the 2026 Lyn Valley Classic? After a day of exploring the cars and the coast, there’s nothing quite like heading back to a quiet spot to relax. We hope to see you in the valley!
